Twitter

Today I watched the video about twittering. I do not know anyone personally who twitters. I've heard that the meteorologist, Jerry Taft, is always twittering. I think I would find this a waste of time. I don't have any desire to follow anyone's every move or thought. Since I am a somewhat private person, I would not deem to take the time to twitter my every move or thought. Life is too short and there are too many things to fit in a day-more active, exciting possibilities. However, it is good to know what everyone is talking about and doing.

IM-convenience or bother?

I did establish a google talk account today. I am familiar with instant messaging when I had an AOL account. More often than not I was a bit annoyed being interrupted when I was online. However, I can see the value particularly for family members who live far away. It really saves on the telephone bill! Also, if you happen to catch a staff member available, you can get instant feedback. Of course, everything has pros and cons. I would not use this frequently. It was a bit cumbersome to sign up and then try to get back on.

LibraryThing

I enjoyed this assignment. It was easy to put in the list of 5 books and I even wrote a review on one of them. I do find it easier to put the books in by isbn rather than title or author. The exact book comes up on the first try using the isbn. I found the book reviews interesting and even the statistics were eye opening. I think I would use this site for my personal use especially when I am stuck for a good read. Also, I could use it to read reviews on children's books. In addition, I like to keep track of the books I have been reading so this is simpler than keeping a list on paper. I can't believe I wrote that! Am I becoming a techie?

del.icio.us?

Since thing 11 went so quickly, I decided to work ahead-imagine that! I did the bookmarking on our home site-www.lagrangelibrary.org. I t was easy. I don't worry about others being able to see my bookmarks because I would not put anything in these that I wouldn't want others to see. I probably would not use this anyway as I have my favorites on my home computer; they are all in one place which I can get from my homepage.

Another eeeeasy task!

Took only a few moments to do this week's techplay, tagging. I chose Sue Grafton's T is for Trespass, my current read. It is about identity theft, a very timely topic.
As I am a wordy person, I needed to curtail my comments in the available limited space. I may use this to jog my memory about favorite books and items. I have seen tagging on other sites such as Amazon, Border's, and some restaurants and even some MD and Dentist's websites.

Flicker

Thing 10 Flicker was fun. It was interesting to see our photos plus other libraries' photos on the site. I have seen photos of family posted in e mail via Walgreen's site. I do not think I would be able to post pictures on a website but it is fun to share photos.

YouTube assignment

I am familiar with youtube because I often receive and send various videos in my personal e-mail. I did take a look and do the assigned tasks. I could not, however, e-mail the video to ya@lagrangelibrary.org.
I chose to watch part of the 4th of July 2008 fireworks in Chicago at Navy Pier. One of my friends is involved in pyrotechnics and performs in Chicago as well as surrounding suburbs. It was breathtaking. Watching youtube is fun!

Social Networking

I did peek into all three suggested networking sites. It was easy. My Space and Facebook were an eye opener; but then I did not know what to expect. I did not feel comfortable at this time joining any of the three although linkedin seemed to be the most professional. All in all, it was an interesting exercise but definitely not my cup of tea.

podcasts

It was easy to listen to the audio pod; I chose to subscribe to Remarkable Palate in the food section under hobbies. There is a plethora of recipes on almost anything you want to cook. I listened to the Italian cucina since I am 50% Italian and love Italian food. The only downside is that there is so much material to wade through. I tried to limited to that one episode but couldn't seem to get the rss feed to work for that topic only.

Eeeeeesy!

Had small bits of time so I decided to skip to 1/12 assignment on lists. Lists were easy to make. On Ta Da I made a list of New Year's resolutions; in Remember the Milk, I made a list of monthly shelf reading - reminders to be e-mailed; and in thingamalist, I made a list of weekly shopping items to be e-mailed. But as far as making life easier,it is easier and faster for me to write a list on a piece of paper. I personally will not be using this type of technology any time soon. But I can see the usefulness for techies to put lists on their cell phones or people who forget where they put the paper lists.

A Brand New Year

Happy New Year to all! Ended the year with a list of resolutions and phone calls to people I have been meaning to keep in contact(one of my resolutions). Started the year on the right foot, going to mass and singing in the choir and visiting with a dear friend over lunch. We always like to meet at least once a month to catch up with one another but the brutal weather has kept both of us at home. One very sad note, however, my beta Indigo passed on to fish heaven on New Year's Eve after a happy 2 years 8 months with me. His buddy Lemony and I dearly miss him.
